Following the elimination of Thai boxer Banjong Sinsiri from the Asian Games, Olympic gold medalist and technical official for the Thailand Boxing Association, Somrak Kamsing, has provided insight into the team's strategic decisions. Banjong, a three-time SEA Games champion typically competing in the 65kg category, suffered a 5-0 defeat against his Indian opponent in the 70kg division.
Somrak explained that the decision to move Banjong to the 70kg weight class was a necessity due to the absence of a 65kg category at these Games and a lack of specialized athletes in the heavier division. He noted that Banjong, now 34, has served the national team extensively, but the physical disparity in the higher weight class proved difficult to overcome. Consequently, the association has reached out to Nabil to represent Thailand in the 70kg category moving forward.
