A consumer in Nakhon Ratchasima reported losing over 6,700 THB after purchasing a counterfeit gold ring through a popular e-commerce application.
According to a report by Khaosod Online on September 21, 2026, a resident of Nakhon Ratchasima has issued a public warning after falling victim to an online gold scam. The victim purchased a half-salung gold ring via a well-known e-commerce platform for 6,730 THB, discounted from a regular price of 7,476 THB, using a three-installment payment plan.
The item was shipped from abroad and arrived after an eight-day wait. Suspicious of the packaging, the buyer recorded the unboxing process. Subsequent verification at a local gold shop confirmed that the ring was counterfeit. Upon attempting to contact the seller for a refund, the buyer discovered the shop had closed and become unreachable. The victim has since contacted the e-commerce platform’s customer service, which is currently investigating the claim.
This incident serves as a cautionary tale for residents and travelers in Thailand regarding the risks of purchasing high-value items like gold online. Experts advise consumers to verify the credibility of online shops, compare prices against current market rates, and exercise extreme caution if prices appear unusually low. It is also recommended to film the unboxing of any high-value package as potential evidence. The final outcome of the refund request remains to be confirmed by the platform.
