Thailand Domestic Tourism Sees Continued Growth in August 2026
Domestic tourism in Thailand grew by over 5% in August 2026, generating nearly 98 billion baht in revenue, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
According to a report from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Thailand’s domestic tourism sector maintained positive momentum throughout August 2026. Data released by the Tourism and Sports Economics Division indicates that 16.33 million domestic trips were recorded during the month, representing a 5.23% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
This surge in travel activity generated approximately 97.9 billion baht in revenue, marking a 0.77% year-on-year growth. The data highlights that Bangkok, Chonburi, Kanchanaburi, and Prachuap Khiri Khan were among the most popular destinations for Thai travelers. Additionally, the national hotel occupancy rate saw a slight increase of 0.23% compared to August of the previous year. Yala led the country in occupancy rates at 81.44%, followed by Ranong, Buriram, and Surat Thani.
For travelers and residents, this trend suggests that popular domestic destinations may remain busy, and booking accommodation in advance is advisable, particularly in high-occupancy provinces. While the report confirms strong growth in visitor numbers and revenue, it does not provide specific projections for the remainder of the year.
