People’s Party Calls for Increased Funding for Student Loan Fund
Opposition MP Rakchanok Srinok has urged the Thai government to address liquidity issues within the Student Loan Fund to prevent potential student dropouts.
According to a report by Khaosod English on September 21, 2026, the opposition People’s Party is pressuring the government to increase financial support for Thailand’s Student Loan Fund (SLF). Rakchanok Srinok, a party-list MP, highlighted that the fund is currently experiencing significant liquidity challenges, which could jeopardize the education of tens of thousands of students.
Srinok stated that the SLF is facing funding shortfalls throughout 2026. The party argues that without immediate government intervention to bolster the fund's capital, many students may be forced to discontinue their studies due to a lack of financial resources.
For residents and those involved in the Thai education sector, this development underscores ongoing debates regarding public spending and social welfare priorities. While the opposition has raised the alarm, the government’s official response and any potential adjustments to the 2026 budget remain to be confirmed. As of now, there is no official announcement regarding whether additional funds will be allocated to resolve the liquidity crisis. Observers are waiting to see if the administration will prioritize this request in upcoming parliamentary sessions.
