GULF Empowers Local Youth as Environmental Detectives in Saraburi
GULF Development has launched an educational initiative in Saraburi, training local students to monitor air and water quality to foster environmental stewardship.
According to Khaosod Online, GULF Development (GULF) has introduced the 'Wind and Water Detective' program, an initiative designed to engage youth living near its power plants in environmental monitoring. The project aims to cultivate a sense of responsibility toward nature by teaching students how to assess the health of their local ecosystems.
During a recent session at Wat Huai Li School in Saraburi, participants were tasked with acting as 'Wind Detectives.' They learned to evaluate air quality by observing the presence and variety of lichens on tree bark, a biological indicator of atmospheric health. The program also includes 'Water Detective' activities and the distribution of upcycled learning materials created from plastic bottle caps under the 'Our Bottle' project, which promotes resource efficiency.
For residents and visitors, this initiative highlights the ongoing efforts by industrial entities in Thailand to integrate community education with corporate social responsibility. By involving the younger generation in scientific observation, the program seeks to build long-term environmental awareness within the community. While the immediate educational impact on the students is clear, the long-term data collection outcomes and the potential expansion of this program to other regions remain to be confirmed by the company.
