Bangkok MRT Blue Line Resumes Normal Service Following Electrical Fault
The MRT Blue Line has returned to full operation after a short-circuit caused by a 750-volt cable spark disrupted service between Bang O and Kamphaeng Phet stations.
On September 21, 2026, Thailand's Deputy Minister of Transport, Phatthaphong Phatthaprasit, confirmed that the MRT Blue Line has resumed normal operations across all stations. This follows a temporary service suspension between Bang O and Kamphaeng Phet stations caused by an electrical short-circuit.
According to reports from the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), the disruption was triggered by sparks originating from a 750-volt DC power cable. This incident resulted in damage to the power supply and signaling systems, necessitating overnight repairs to the tracks, power rails, and signaling infrastructure. Following comprehensive safety inspections, the line was cleared for service, with trains resuming their regular schedule at 5:37 AM.
For residents and travelers, this restoration ensures that the Blue Line is once again fully functional for the start of the work week. The Ministry of Transport has expressed gratitude to the technical teams who worked through the night to resolve the issue. While the system has been declared safe for public use following these repairs, commuters are advised that the MRTA continues to monitor the infrastructure.
