Promoting Gambling Websites via Voiceovers Carries Legal Risks in Thailand
Thai authorities have clarified that providing voiceovers for gambling advertisements can lead to criminal prosecution under the Gambling Act.
On September 20, 2026, the Parliamentary Information Repository (PRT) issued a public advisory regarding the legal consequences of promoting illegal gambling websites. The statement clarifies that individuals who provide voiceovers or audio endorsements for such platforms may be held criminally liable, even if they do not appear on camera.
According to the Gambling Act B.E. 2478 (1935), Section 12, any person who assists in advertising, soliciting, or encouraging others to participate in unauthorized gambling—whether directly or indirectly—is subject to legal penalties. The law stipulates that those found guilty of such actions face imprisonment ranging from three months to three years, along with fines between 500 and 5,000 baht.
For residents and visitors, this serves as a reminder that participating in the promotion of prohibited activities, including digital gambling, is strictly regulated. The legal interpretation emphasizes that the medium of promotion—whether visual or auditory—does not exempt an individual from accountability. While the advisory clarifies the scope of the law, it remains to be seen how strictly these provisions will be enforced against influencers or content creators who operate from outside the country or use anonymous audio techniques. Individuals are advised to exercise caution regarding the types of content they endorse to avoid potential legal complications.
