MRT Blue and Purple Line Services Disrupted by Electrical Fault
An electrical short circuit has caused partial service suspensions on Bangkok's MRT Blue and Purple lines, with shuttle buses deployed to assist commuters.
On September 20, 2026, the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) reported a service disruption on the MRT Blue Line and Purple Line due to an electrical short circuit. According to Khaosod Online, the incident has forced the suspension of operations between Bang O and Kamphaeng Phet stations on the Blue Line, and between Bang Son and Tao Poon stations on the Purple Line.
To mitigate the impact on commuters, the MRTA has coordinated with the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) to provide shuttle bus services. Three buses are operating between Chatuchak Park, Tao Poon, and Bang Phlat, while two additional buses are covering the route between Bang Son and Tao Poon. Tao Poon station is currently serving as a key interchange point for these alternative transport arrangements.
MRTA officials and relevant technical teams are currently on-site investigating the cause and working to restore normal service. The authority has emphasized that passenger and staff safety remains the primary priority during the repair process. Residents and travelers in the affected areas should anticipate delays and consider alternative travel routes until the system is fully operational.
