Chiang Mai University Unveils V-TOL Drone to Combat Northern Wildfires

The College of Arts, Media and Technology (CAMT) at Chiang Mai University (CMU) has officially launched a new vertical take-off and landing (V-TOL) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). According to a report by Prachachat Business, this innovation is designed to serve as an 'eye in the sky' to support national park officials in their efforts to manage forest fires and the resulting PM 2.5 dust pollution in Northern Thailand.

Assistant Professor Dr. Phudinan Singkhamfu, a lecturer at the institution, highlighted that the drone technology aims to improve the efficiency of fire detection and monitoring in difficult-to-reach terrain. For residents and travelers in Northern Thailand, this development is significant as it represents a proactive technological approach to mitigating the seasonal haze that frequently impacts air quality and visibility in the region.
