On September 20, 2026, an electrical incident occurred on the MRT tracks near Tao Poon station, located on Pracharat Sai 2 Road in the Bang Sue district. According to Khaosod Online, the incident involved a short circuit that resulted in visible flames on the tracks. Emergency responders were deployed to the scene, utilizing thermal cameras and smoke extraction equipment to manage the situation. All passengers were safely evacuated from the area.
Kajphajon Udomthampakdee, Governor of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), stated that preliminary investigations suggest the short circuit was caused by high humidity levels on the power rail, exacerbated by recent rainfall. A more detailed investigation is currently underway to confirm the exact cause.
As a result of the incident, Bangkok Expressway and Metro (BEM) announced a temporary suspension of services between Bang O station and Kamphaeng Phet station. Commuters are advised to utilize nearby stations, though delays of approximately 60 minutes have been reported across the network. For residents and travelers, this disruption highlights the impact of severe weather on transit infrastructure.
