Fatal Train Accident in Yala Claims Life of Elderly Man
A 72-year-old man was struck and killed by a freight train while walking across a railway bridge in Yala province.
On September 20, 2026, a tragic accident occurred in Yala province when a 72-year-old man, identified as Mr. Waebideng, was struck by a freight train. According to Khaosod Online, the incident took place on a railway bridge connecting Ban Bado and Ban Thung Riang in the Mueang Yala district.
Local police, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Nattakhet Chanaphon, reported that the victim was walking along the railway bridge—a shortcut he was reportedly using to attend a wedding in Ban Thung Riang—when the Bangkok-Sungai Kolok freight train (No. 985) approached. The victim, who reportedly suffered from a congenital cognitive disability, was unable to clear the tracks in time and sustained fatal injuries from the impact.
For residents and travelers in the area, this incident serves as a somber reminder of the extreme dangers associated with walking on or near active railway infrastructure. Pedestrians are strongly advised to utilize designated crossings and public roads rather than railway bridges, which are not designed for foot traffic. While the victim's family has accepted the event as an unavoidable accident, local authorities are continuing their investigation.
