Street Vendor Targeted by Counterfeit Currency Scam
A roadside vendor in Buriram reported being defrauded by two women driving a luxury Mercedes-Benz who used counterfeit banknotes to purchase goods.
On September 20, 2026, a roadside vendor named Ms. Manee, operating near Ban Tako on the Chok Chai-Det Udom Road, reported a fraudulent incident to local media. According to the vendor, the event occurred on the afternoon of September 19, when two women arrived in a new-model Mercedes-Benz.
One of the women, described as the older of the two, purchased one kilogram of preserved tamarind. She allegedly paid using two counterfeit banknotes. The vendor only realized the currency was fake later that day when attempting to use the money at a convenience store. Beyond the loss of the goods, the vendor also provided change to the customers, resulting in a financial loss.
For residents and travelers, this incident serves as a reminder to remain vigilant when handling cash, particularly when dealing with high-denomination notes. While the vendor has brought the matter to the attention of the media, it remains to be confirmed whether a formal police report has been filed or if authorities have identified the suspects.
