Royal Irrigation Department Issues Flood Alert for 11 Provinces Along Chao Phraya River
The Royal Irrigation Department has issued a second warning for 11 provinces along the Chao Phraya River basin due to rising water levels following heavy rainfall.
On September 20, 2026, the Royal Irrigation Department (RID) issued its second official notification regarding the water situation in the Chao Phraya River basin. Acting on behalf of the Director-General, Deputy Director-General Dej Lekvichai alerted the governors of 11 provinces: Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri, Lop Buri, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, and Bangkok.
The alert follows significant rainfall in the upper regions of the country, which has caused water levels in the Chao Phraya River to rise. According to the RID’s projections for the next nine days, the water flow at the C.2 monitoring station in Nakhon Sawan is expected to reach between 1,100 and 1,250 cubic meters per second by September 27, 2026.
For residents and travelers, this notification serves as a precautionary measure to ensure water management remains aligned with current rainfall and runoff conditions. While the situation is being monitored, those living or traveling near the riverbanks in these provinces should stay informed through local authorities. It remains to be confirmed how these water levels will fluctuate beyond the nine-day forecast period and whether further adjustments to dam discharge rates will be necessary to mitigate potential flooding in low-lying areas.
