Police Arrest Trio for Theft of Electrical Wiring from Chanthaburi Crematorium
Authorities in Chanthaburi have apprehended three individuals accused of stealing electrical wiring from a local temple's crematorium, homes, and businesses to fund drug use.
On September 19, 2026, police in Chanthaburi province arrested 31-year-old Decha, along with his girlfriend and a friend, following a series of thefts targeting electrical infrastructure. According to Khaosod Online, the suspects were apprehended at a rental room in Tha Chang sub-district after allegedly stripping copper wire from the control cabinet of the crematorium at Wat Khong Sanam Pao, as well as from nearby residences and coffee shops.
During the arrest, officers seized copper wire, cutting tools, and 0.31 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ice) along with drug paraphernalia. The suspect, a native of Buriram, admitted to the crimes, stating he had been unemployed since moving to the area and targeted quiet locations, including the temple, to steal wiring for resale. The proceeds were reportedly used for personal expenses and to purchase narcotics.
This incident highlights a recurring issue of infrastructure theft that disrupts local services and causes significant frustration for residents. While the suspects have been taken into custody and participated in a crime scene reconstruction, the investigation remains ongoing.
