Fake Military Officer Arrested in Bangkok for Fraud and Drug Charges
Thai police have apprehended a 44-year-old man posing as a military officer on social media to solicit money and gain attention.
On September 18, 2026, the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) arrested a 44-year-old man, identified as Udom or Wut, in the Bang Kho Laem district of Bangkok. According to Khaosod Online, the suspect had been operating a Facebook account where he falsely claimed to be a military officer stationed at the border. He frequently posted images of war weapons and videos depicting military missions to gain social media engagement and solicit money from women.
Authorities discovered that the suspect was already a wanted individual. He was subject to an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the Chonburi Provincial Court on July 16, 2024, related to charges of possession of Category 1 narcotics (methamphetamine).
For residents and visitors, this case serves as a reminder to exercise caution when interacting with individuals online who claim to hold positions of authority or military status, especially when financial requests are involved.
