Den Chai-Chiang Rai-Chiang Khong Railway Project Reaches 70% Completion
Construction of the new railway line connecting Den Chai, Chiang Rai, and Chiang Khong has surpassed 70% progress, with the country's longest tunnel expected to be completed this year.
According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Department of Rail Transport (DRT) has confirmed that the construction of the new railway line linking Den Chai, Chiang Rai, and Chiang Khong is now over 70% complete. Pichet Kunadhamraks, Director-General of the DRT, recently inspected the site to ensure that safety standards are strictly maintained throughout the project.
A key milestone in this development is the 'Ngao Tunnel,' which is set to become the longest railway tunnel in Thailand. Excavation of this tunnel is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2026. The project remains on track to meet its official opening target in 2028.
For residents and travelers, this infrastructure project is significant as it aims to improve connectivity to the northern provinces and the border region of Chiang Khong, potentially facilitating easier travel and logistics in the future. While the construction progress is steady, the final operational details, including specific train schedules and ticket pricing, remain to be confirmed as the project moves toward its 2028 launch date.
