Activist 'Tae Archeewa' has demanded an inquiry into the retroactive issuance of a birth certificate for a Myanmar national at the Klaeng Subdistrict Municipality.
On September 18, 2026, Akarawut Kraisrisombat, known as 'Tae Archeewa,' visited the Klaeng Subdistrict Municipality office in Rayong province to challenge the legitimacy of a birth certificate issued to a Myanmar national. The case involves a child born in 2011 at Klaeng Hospital to parents working in Kanchanaburi.
According to reports from Khaosod Online, the child, who has resided in Kanchanaburi, faced discrepancies between their school registration documents and the birth certificate issued by the local registrar. The municipality reportedly issued the document retroactively in 2025, citing past system failures as the reason for the delay. The situation has drawn significant scrutiny following allegations from the child's mother, who claimed in a recorded audio clip that she paid 80,000 baht to obtain the birth certificate and a '00' identification card.
For residents and observers, this case highlights potential vulnerabilities in local administrative processes regarding civil registration. While municipal officials maintain that they followed standard procedures to rectify past system errors, the allegations of financial impropriety remain a serious point of contention.
