Thailand Sets September 30 Deadline for App-Based Driver Licenses

According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Department of Land Transport (DLT) in Thailand has issued a strict deadline for all drivers operating through ride-hailing applications. By September 30, 2026, every driver must possess a valid public driving license. This measure follows a collaborative agreement between the DLT and ride-hailing service providers, initiated after Grab reportedly ceased its internal driver screening system.

For residents and frequent travelers who rely on ride-hailing apps, this development is significant as it aims to standardize safety and regulatory compliance across the sector. The DLT reports that the number of applications for public driving licenses has tripled since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the authorities and the app platforms, indicating a rapid industry-wide transition to meet these requirements.
