Calls for Clarity on Thailand’s Alcohol Advertising Regulations

People’s Party MP Taopiphop Limjittrakorn has urged the Alcohol Control Committee to finalize secondary legislation to clarify permissible alcohol-related activities.

On September 18, 2026, Taopiphop Limjittrakorn, a Bangkok Member of Parliament for the People’s Party, publicly called on the Alcohol Control Committee to expedite the issuance of secondary legislation regarding alcohol regulations. According to a report by Prachachat Business, the MP emphasized that current ambiguity surrounding what is legally permissible creates significant confusion for the general public, merchants, business operators, and content creators.

Taopiphop argued that effective legislation requires clear, standardized rules that apply consistently to everyone. He suggested that the current lack of specific guidelines leaves stakeholders uncertain about their legal standing when promoting or discussing alcohol-related products.

For residents and visitors, this development is significant as it highlights ongoing efforts to modernize and clarify Thailand’s strict alcohol control laws. While the current legal framework remains in place, the push for secondary legislation suggests that future updates may provide more definitive boundaries for marketing and social media content.

It remains to be confirmed when or if the Alcohol Control Committee will release these specific guidelines. Until such secondary legislation is enacted, individuals and businesses are advised to remain cautious regarding alcohol-related content, as the interpretation of existing laws remains subject to official discretion.
