Grab Thailand Launches 'Part-time for Thais' Initiative to Boost Supplemental Income

Grab Thailand has officially launched the 'Part-time for Thais' initiative, a program designed to help individuals earn supplemental income through its digital platform. According to Khaosod Online, the initiative specifically targets vocational and university students, as well as civil servants, including military and police personnel, encouraging them to use their spare time to work as ride-hailing drivers or food and parcel delivery riders.

Jantsuda Thananitayaudom, Managing Director of Grab Thailand, stated that the program responds to the growing 'side hustle' trend among Gen Z and Millennials, who are increasingly seeking ways to alleviate financial burdens during the current economic slowdown. The company is piloting outreach activities at educational institutions and government agencies, such as the Ministry of Defence, the Royal Thai Army, and the Royal Thai Air Force. New participants are being offered incentives, such as special bonuses and essential service equipment like jackets and delivery bags.

For residents and expatriates, this development highlights the ongoing shift in Thailand’s gig economy, where digital platforms are becoming a primary source of flexible income. While the program aims to provide financial relief, it remains to be confirmed how the influx of new part-time drivers will impact service availability or wait times for users across the platform. Grab emphasizes that the initiative is open to all, regardless of age or educational background, provided they meet the platform's operational requirements.
