South African Police Investigate String of Mysterious Deaths in Johannesburg
Authorities in South Africa are investigating the discovery of nine female bodies over the past two months in the Ekurhuleni district, sparking fears of a potential serial killer.
According to reports from Khaosod Online and the BBC, South African police have discovered the body of a ninth woman in the eastern suburbs of Johannesburg, Gauteng province, within the last two months. The latest victim, estimated to be around 30 years old, was found partially clothed and wrapped in a bedsheet on a roadside in Dawn Park on September 17. Local reports indicate the body showed signs of bruising and stab wounds.
Since July, eight other women have been found deceased across the Ekurhuleni metropolitan area, many in similar states of undress and with visible injuries. One identified victim, 38-year-old Elizabeth Sonzo Moselakgomo, was discovered behind a hotel in Kempton Park three days after she went missing during a run.
While the community is gripped by fear, with many residents expressing anxiety about leaving their homes, police have stated that it is not yet confirmed whether these deaths are linked or the work of a single serial killer. President Cyril Ramaphosa has pledged that authorities will take all necessary measures to identify those responsible. For residents and visitors, this situation highlights a significant security concern in the affected areas. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have yet to establish a definitive connection between the cases.
