Provincial authorities are set to inspect a vacant property in Udon Thani after the owner reported an unexplained electricity bill spike of nearly 50,000 baht.
The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) in Udon Thani has scheduled an inspection for September 21, 2026, to determine the cause of an unusually high electricity bill. The issue was brought to light by Mr. Sittipol Telakul, a 57-year-old Bangkok resident, who reported that his vacant family home in Udon Thani—which typically incurs a monthly charge of approximately 26 baht—suddenly recorded a bill of nearly 50,000 baht.
According to Khaosod Online, Mr. Sittipol also filed a police report regarding a break-in at the property, where various items were stolen. He expressed frustration over the lack of clarity from local utility officials, who initially suggested a potential power leak but provided little further explanation. In response, Ms. Nipaphat Jitkham, Deputy Manager of the Udon Thani PEA, confirmed that the agency is preparing to visit the site to investigate the discrepancy and work with the owner toward a resolution.
For residents and property owners, this case highlights the importance of monitoring utility accounts, even for unoccupied premises. While the PEA has acknowledged the situation, the exact cause of the surge—whether due to theft, equipment failure, or a technical error—remains to be confirmed by the upcoming inspection.
