Elderly Woman Rescued After Falling into Noi River in Chai Nat
A local rescue worker and residents saved an elderly woman who was found drifting on a patch of water hyacinth in the Noi River after accidentally falling in while foraging.
On September 17, 2026, a dramatic rescue took place in the Noi River, located between Wat Phra Kaeo and Wat Tha Krasae in the Thiang Thae sub-district of Chai Nat province. According to a report by Khaosod Online, an elderly woman identified as 'Yai Jaew' was discovered drifting downstream while clinging to a clump of water hyacinth.
Local residents initially heard cries for help, which alerted a passing rescue worker, Phasakorn Muenkla. Recognizing the urgency as the current carried the woman further away, the rescuer and local villagers utilized a boat to reach her. Upon being brought to the shore, Yai Jaew was found to be physically exhausted but conscious and able to communicate. She declined medical treatment at a hospital.
It was later determined that the incident occurred when the woman attempted to collect water hyacinth for food and accidentally fell into the river. For travelers and residents in the area, this incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of river currents and the risks associated with foraging near waterways. While the woman was rescued safely, the incident highlights the importance of caution when near riverbanks.
