Electricity officials in Thailand have filed a police report after discovering a residence using bypassed electricity and water meters.
On September 16, 2026, an official from the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) documented a case of utility theft at a residential property in Thailand. According to a report by Khaosod Online, the official—who shared the findings via the TikTok account @PeachPeach_TV—discovered that the home had been reconnected to both electricity and water supplies despite having had its meters previously removed due to disconnection.
The occupants had allegedly bypassed the utility systems by connecting directly to the main lines and concealing the connections with plastic buckets. When the official arrived to inspect the site, they attempted to contact the residents, but no one emerged from the property. Consequently, the official contacted the police and filed a formal complaint regarding the theft of state-provided utilities.
For residents and visitors, this incident highlights the strict enforcement of utility regulations in Thailand. Unauthorized tampering with public utility infrastructure is a criminal offense that can lead to legal prosecution. While the authorities have initiated legal action, the identity of the individuals responsible for the illegal connections remains unconfirmed, as no one appeared during the inspection.
