Thai SEC Launches Sandbox to Accelerate IPO Process
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Thailand has initiated a pilot program with three companies to reduce the IPO approval timeline to 60–100 days.
According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has launched a new regulatory sandbox initiative. This pilot program involves three companies and aims to significantly shorten the initial public offering (IPO) process. Currently, the average time for IPO approval in Thailand is 147 days; the SEC intends to reduce this duration to between 60 and 100 days.
To achieve this, the regulator is restructuring its internal workflows, allowing for the resolution of critical issues before the formal filing of documents. Furthermore, the SEC is shifting toward a disclosure-based approach, which is intended to minimize the use of subjective discretion during the review process. The agency plans to evaluate the results of this sandbox to develop a comprehensive operational manual by 2027.
For residents and expatriates, this development may signal a more dynamic local stock market and increased corporate activity. A faster IPO process could lead to more companies entering the public market, potentially offering more investment opportunities. However, it remains to be confirmed how these procedural changes will impact long-term market oversight and investor protection standards. The SEC has not yet announced if or when these streamlined processes will be fully integrated into standard regulatory practice beyond the current pilot phase.
