Supreme Court Accepts Petition Challenging Senator Qualifications in Amnat Charoen
Thailand's Supreme Court has accepted a petition to review the eligibility of two senators from Amnat Charoen province, following allegations of improper professional group registration.
On September 17, 2026, Khaosod Online reported that the Supreme Court’s Election Case Division has accepted a petition filed by reserve senator Akarawat Pongthanachonitkul. The legal challenge invokes Section 44 of the 2018 Organic Act on the Acquisition of Senators to contest the certification of two senators from Amnat Charoen, identified as Daeng Kongma and Somphan Phalasak.
The petitioner is seeking the revocation of Election Commission (EC) rulings from December 2024 and January 2025, which originally certified the two individuals. The petition alleges that the senators were improperly registered under the wrong professional group, specifically Group 10. Furthermore, the filing requests criminal action and the revocation of political rights for the two respondents. The court has scheduled a preliminary evidence examination hearing for October 27, 2026.
