Thailand’s Department of Land Transport Revokes Licenses of Private Inspection Centers

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Department of Land Transport (DLT) has intensified its oversight of private vehicle inspection centers (known as TROR) to ensure transparency and compliance with safety standards. Thitipat Thaijongrak, Director of the Bureau of Automotive Engineering and DLT spokesperson, announced that the department has revoked the licenses of 87 inspection centers nationwide to date.

Specifically, between July and August 2026, authorities identified fraudulent activities at three centers in Nonthaburi province. These facilities were found to have issued inspection certificates without actually performing the required vehicle checks or providing false results. Consequently, the DLT has revoked the operating licenses of these three centers and cancelled the identification cards of seven inspectors involved in the misconduct. The Nonthaburi Provincial Transport Office has been instructed to file criminal charges against all involved parties under Sections 76 and 158 of the relevant regulations.

For residents and expatriates, this crackdown highlights the government's commitment to road safety and the integrity of vehicle documentation. While this action aims to ensure that only roadworthy vehicles are certified, it serves as a reminder to ensure that vehicle inspections are conducted at authorized and reputable facilities. It remains to be confirmed whether further investigations will expand to other provinces or if additional centers will face similar disciplinary actions in the coming months.
