Concerns Raised Over Student Loan Fund Deficit in Parliament

On September 17, 2026, during a session at the Thai Parliament, opposition MP Rakchanok Srinork of the People's Party raised urgent concerns regarding the financial stability of the Student Loan Fund (SLF). Addressing the government, she highlighted a 7 billion baht deficit within the fund, noting that many students are currently uncertain if they will receive continued financial support for their tuition fees. According to reports, some universities have threatened to bar students from continuing their studies because the SLF has failed to disburse payments.

In response, Paradorn Prissananantakul, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, addressed the assembly on behalf of the Prime Minister. He noted that out of 3.6 million borrowers, only 1 million are currently repaying their loans. He emphasized the need to improve debt collection efforts, specifically targeting those who have the income to repay but have failed to do so.
