Nimibutr Stadium Closes Doors to Department of Physical Education
The historic Nimibutr Stadium and Wisuttharom Swimming Pool are being returned to Chulalongkorn University following the conclusion of the DPE WOW Futsal Cup 2026.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Department of Physical Education (DPE) under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports has officially concluded its tenure at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok. The final event hosted at the venue was the 'DPE WOW Futsal Cup 2026' (Category A), which held its championship match on September 16, 2026.
This tournament marks the final chapter for the stadium as a DPE-managed facility, ending decades of history as a prominent venue for both student-level and international futsal competitions. Starting October 1, 2026, the DPE will return the Nimibutr Stadium and the adjacent Wisuttharom Swimming Pool to the management of Chulalongkorn University.
For residents and travelers, this transition signifies a major change in the accessibility and management of these iconic sports facilities located in the Pathum Wan district. While the DPE has confirmed the handover date, the specific future usage plans for these venues under Chulalongkorn University’s administration remain to be confirmed. Visitors who frequent the area for sports events should note that the facilities will no longer operate under the Department of Physical Education after the end of September.
