Thai Durian Exports to China Surge in First Seven Months of 2026
Thailand's cross-border and transit trade shows significant growth, with durian exports to China reaching 1.005 million tons.
According to a report from Prachachat Business citing the Department of Foreign Trade, Thailand’s cross-border and transit trade experienced a robust expansion in July 2026. Total trade value for the month reached 212.314 billion baht, marking a 27.9% increase. Exports specifically accounted for 124.916 billion baht, a growth of 35.5%, resulting in a trade surplus of 37.518 billion baht.
A standout figure in this economic performance is the export of Thai durian. Over the first seven months of 2026, transit trade volume for the fruit reached 1.005 million tons, valued at 124 billion baht. While cross-border trade grew by 22.8%—led by a 55% surge in trade with Malaysia—transit trade saw an overall increase of 31.3%, with China remaining the primary destination.
For residents and travelers, this data highlights the continued strength of Thailand’s agricultural export sector, which remains a vital pillar of the national economy. The high volume of durian moving through transit channels underscores the efficiency of current logistics routes to China. However, it remains to be confirmed how these trade volumes will fluctuate in the final quarter of the year and whether current logistics infrastructure will continue to support this high demand as seasonal harvest patterns shift.
