Thailand Advances 'Visitor Economy' Through Data Integration
Weerasak Kowsurat, head of the Creative Economy and Visitor Economy working group, announced a new initiative to integrate data and agency collaboration to boost Thailand's tourism sector.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, Weerasak Kowsurat, chairman of the working group for Creative Economy and Visitor Economy development, recently held the group's sixth meeting to discuss the evolution of Thailand's tourism strategy. The initiative aims to transition from conceptual understanding to a practical 'Visitor Economy Intelligence Ecosystem.'
This model focuses on consolidating existing data, knowledge, and operational workflows across various government agencies to create tangible results. Weerasak highlighted that Thailand possesses significant data assets and local knowledge, particularly regarding community development and special tourism zones. He specifically cited the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA) projects in locations such as Koh Chang, Koh Kood, and Ban Chak Ngaew as foundational examples for understanding regional potential and product development.
For travelers and residents, this shift suggests a more data-driven approach to tourism management, which could lead to better-developed local experiences and more sustainable infrastructure in popular and emerging destinations. While the framework for this intelligence ecosystem is becoming clearer, the specific timeline for the full implementation of these integrated systems and the exact nature of the new tourism products resulting from this data consolidation remain to be confirmed.
