Pattaya Launches 'Koh Larn Model' to Enhance Environmental Sustainability

Pattaya City has introduced the 'Koh Larn Model,' a strategic initiative aimed at balancing tourism growth with environmental preservation on the popular island. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the city is prioritizing environmental infrastructure to address the challenges posed by increasing visitor numbers, specifically regarding waste accumulation and wastewater management.

Central to this initiative is a comprehensive waste-to-energy project managed through a 25-year Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract with the private sector. The facility will utilize two closed-system incinerators capable of processing approximately 50 tons of waste per day. This system is designed to handle both daily waste generated by tourism activities and the backlog of existing waste on the island.
