Security Scare Over Abandoned Suitcase in Ayutthaya Resolved
A suspicious suitcase found under a bridge in Ayutthaya prompted a police investigation, but was found to be empty.
On the morning of September 17, 2026, local authorities in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province responded to a security concern regarding an abandoned suitcase. According to a report by Khaosod Online, a security guard discovered a large, new-looking black suitcase wrapped in plastic beneath a bridge crossing Khlong Hok on Rojana Road.
Due to the suspicious nature of the placement and the potential for illegal items or hazardous materials, the guard contacted the 191 emergency center. Police officers from the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya station, accompanied by members of the Phutthaisawan Foundation, arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Given the public anxiety surrounding such discoveries, officials conducted a careful inspection of the item.
Upon moving the suitcase to the bridge deck and opening it, authorities discovered that the bag was completely empty. No drugs, dangerous objects, or human remains were found inside. The incident, which caused temporary concern among local residents and passersby, was resolved without further action. For travelers and residents, this event serves as a reminder of the heightened vigilance regarding unattended items in public spaces. While this specific case was a false alarm, authorities continue to encourage the public to report suspicious objects to the police rather than attempting to inspect them personally.
