The Thai national sepak takraw team experienced significant delays in accessing their assigned accommodation on the Costa Serena cruise ship in Nagoya, Japan, due to administrative errors.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Thai national sepak takraw team encountered unexpected difficulties upon arriving in Nagoya for the 2026 Asian Games. After departing Suvarnabhumi Airport on the night of September 15, the athletes arrived at the designated accommodation, the Costa Serena cruise ship, only to find that they could not check in. By the evening of September 16, the team remained without access to their rooms, with athlete Kaewjai Pumsawangkaew sharing images of team members resting on the lobby floor due to exhaustion.
Chalitrat Chantharubeksa, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand and deputy head of the Thai delegation, stated that the issue stemmed from an error by the Japanese event organizers. The organizers reportedly failed to submit the Thai team's documentation into the accommodation system, causing the records to be missing. As a temporary measure, officials have arranged for the athletes to stay in rooms assigned to other delegations while the situation is being resolved. For travelers and residents, this incident highlights the potential for logistical challenges during large-scale international events. It remains to be confirmed how quickly the organizers will rectify the administrative oversight and whether similar issues will affect other participating teams.
