Grab Acquires Atome Financial to Expand Digital Lending Services
Grab has announced the acquisition of a 60% stake in Atome Financial to bolster its digital lending and 'Buy Now, Pay Later' services across five ASEAN nations.
According to a report by Prachachat Business, Grab has officially entered into an agreement to acquire a 60% stake in Atome Financial, a digital finance platform under AIGL. The transaction is valued at approximately 1.49 billion USD. This strategic move is designed to integrate Atome’s 'Buy Now, Pay Later' (BNPL) and digital lending capabilities into Grab’s existing ecosystem across five countries in the ASEAN region.
For residents and frequent travelers in Thailand and the broader region, this acquisition may lead to more integrated financial services within the Grab application, potentially simplifying payment options and access to credit. The company has also secured the right to purchase the remaining 40% of shares in the future, signaling a long-term commitment to expanding its financial technology portfolio, which aims to reach a portfolio value of 6 billion USD.
While the initial acquisition phase is underway, several details remain to be confirmed, including the specific timeline for the full integration of Atome’s services into the Grab app and how this will affect existing user accounts or credit limits. Users should monitor official updates from Grab regarding when these new financial features will become available in their respective markets.
