Entertainer Apologizes After Controversial Performance in Lampang
A singer from a popular Lampang venue has issued a formal apology to provincial religious authorities following a performance that sparked public outcry.
On September 16, 2026, a singer from a well-known entertainment venue in Lampang, accompanied by legal counsel, formally apologized to Phra Ratchajintawachiraporn, the Ecclesiastical Provincial Governor of Lampang. This action followed a viral video from September 13, 2026, which depicted the performer wearing yellow robes resembling those of a Buddhist monk while engaging in suggestive behavior and singing on stage.
The performance drew significant criticism for its perceived disrespect toward Buddhism. In response, the Lampang Provincial Office of Buddhism filed a formal complaint with the Mueang Lampang Police Station to pursue legal action. During the apology, the singer stated that the incident was a result of a lack of awareness rather than an intentional effort to mock the religion, and expressed regret to the people of Lampang and the Buddhist community.
