Community Development Department Launches 'OTOP Nawatvithi' Showcase in Bangkok
The Department of Community Development has opened a new exhibition at The Street Ratchada to promote local tourism and OTOP products, aligning with national goals to boost the grassroots economy.
On September 16, 2026, the Department of Community Development (CDD) under the Ministry of Interior launched the 'Experience Thai Charm, Travel with Nawatvithi Tourism Communities' event at The Street Ratchada shopping center in Bangkok. Presided over by CDD Director-General Siam Sirimongkol, the initiative aims to bring local OTOP (One Tambon One Product) goods and community-based tourism experiences directly to urban consumers.
This event supports the government’s broader tourism strategy, led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, which seeks to transition Thailand’s tourism sector from a volume-based model to a high-value, year-round destination. By integrating local culture, identity, and products into the tourism experience, the government intends to distribute economic benefits more effectively to rural areas.
For residents and travelers, this exhibition offers a centralized opportunity to explore regional crafts and tourism packages that are typically found only in remote provinces. While the event highlights the government's commitment to sustainable community development, it remains to be seen how these temporary urban showcases will translate into long-term, consistent growth for the participating local entrepreneurs. Further details regarding the duration of the exhibition and specific participating communities are expected to be provided by the Ministry of Interior.
