Ceramic Factory Layoffs Impact 200 Workers in Nakhon Phanom
A ceramic factory in Nakhon Phanom has announced the termination of 200 employees, citing declining international orders and global economic pressures.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, a ceramic manufacturing facility in Nakhon Phanom has laid off 200 staff members. The company attributed the decision to a sustained drop in international orders, exacerbated by global economic instability, international conflicts, and recent changes in U.S. trade tariffs, which led to a critical lack of liquidity.
The layoffs were implemented in two phases: daily-wage workers were terminated effective September 7, 2026, while monthly-salaried employees are scheduled to be let go on September 30, 2026. While the company has committed to paying regular wages through the end of the employment period, it has not yet confirmed a timeline for the payment of severance benefits. This uncertainty has caused significant distress among the affected workforce, some of whom have already begun turning to small-scale agriculture, such as growing yardlong beans and cucumbers, to sustain their livelihoods.
Local labor officials, including representatives from the Nakhon Phanom Provincial Labor Office and the Social Security Office, have visited the site to meet with the affected employees and discuss their rights. For residents and those monitoring the local economy, this event highlights the vulnerability of regional manufacturing to shifts in global trade. It remains to be confirmed when the company will finalize severance payments and whether any further assistance will be provided to the displaced workers.
