Thailand Launches 1 Billion Baht Deep Tech Fund to Boost Innovation

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, alongside the Stock Exchange of Thailand and NIA, has established a 1 billion baht PE Trust to support deep tech development.

On September 15, 2026, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), the National Innovation Agency (NIA), and the Stock Exchange of Thailand announced a collaborative initiative to elevate Thailand's deep tech sector. The core of this project is the establishment of a 1 billion baht Private Equity (PE) Trust, designed to provide financial backing for advanced technological research and development.

In conjunction with the fund, the authorities have launched the 'UHC Consortium,' a network connecting 15 universities across the country. This partnership aims to bridge the gap between academic research and commercial application, fostering an ecosystem where scientific breakthroughs can be scaled into viable business solutions.

For residents and expatriates, this development signals a long-term commitment to modernizing Thailand’s economy, potentially leading to new job opportunities in high-tech industries and improved digital infrastructure. While the financial framework is now in place, specific details regarding the application process for startups and the timeline for the first round of funding disbursements remain to be confirmed. Observers are watching to see how effectively these 15 universities will integrate their research capabilities to meet the demands of the global market.
