A new homeowner in Chiang Mai discovered a human skeleton inside a property purchased through a legal execution auction.
On September 15, 2026, a 54-year-old woman named Phakakaew discovered human remains inside a house she had recently purchased via a Legal Execution Department auction. The property, located in Moo 6, San Phi Suea, Chiang Mai, was acquired by the new owner on August 6, 2026.
According to Khaosod Online, the discovery occurred after the owner filed a report with the Mae Ping Police Station to have local officials witness the removal of the previous owner's belongings. Neighbors had previously reported a foul odor emanating from the vacant house, though they initially speculated it might be related to a suicide. The new owner, who intended to renovate the property, noted that she had experienced a dream about an elderly woman promising her a lottery win shortly before the discovery.
For residents and travelers, this incident highlights the complexities associated with purchasing distressed properties in Thailand. While such auctions can offer significant value, they may involve legal or physical complications regarding the previous occupants. At this stage, the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding their death remain under investigation by local authorities. The police are currently processing the scene to determine how the individual died and why they remained in the home.
