Thai Government Postpones 'Thai Tiew Thai Plus' Tourism Stimulus to April 2027
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has delayed the launch of the 4-billion-baht 'Thai Tiew Thai Plus' campaign, citing concerns over the effectiveness of spending during peak travel seasons.
On September 16, 2026, Minister of Tourism and Sports Surasak Phancharoenworakul announced that the government has decided to postpone the 'Thai Tiew Thai Plus' tourism stimulus project. Originally scheduled to begin on October 1, 2026, the initiative is now expected to launch in April 2027.
According to Khaosod Online, the decision follows discussions within the Cabinet and relevant ministries. Officials concluded that injecting a 4-billion-baht budget during the upcoming high season—which spans from late 2026 to early 2027—would be inefficient. Because hotels and tourist destinations typically experience high occupancy rates during this period without government intervention, authorities believe that spending the funds during the peak season would fail to provide the intended economic stimulus. By shifting the program to the low season starting in April, the government aims to maximize the impact of the 1 million available subsidies for accommodation.
For travelers and residents, this means that the anticipated government-subsidized travel benefits will not be available during the upcoming year-end holidays. While the budget and the scope of the project remain set at 4 billion baht, specific details regarding the exact launch date in April and the final application criteria for the 1 million rights are yet to be confirmed by the Ministry.
