Thailand’s Border Trade Surges by 12.9% in First Seven Months of 2026
Thailand reports a significant increase in border and transit trade, reaching 1.34 trillion baht, with durian exports exceeding one million tons.
According to data from Khaosod Online Thailand, the Department of Foreign Trade has announced that Thailand’s border and transit trade experienced robust growth during the first seven months of 2026. Total trade value reached 1.34 trillion baht, marking a 12.9% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Exports accounted for 760.6 billion baht, while imports totaled 581.2 billion baht, resulting in a trade surplus of 179.4 billion baht.
For the month of July 2026 alone, total trade value was 212.3 billion baht, a 27.9% year-on-year increase. A notable highlight of this period was the export of durian, which surpassed one million tons. Arada Fuangthong, Director-General of the Department of Foreign Trade, noted that these figures reflect strong regional economic activity.
For residents and travelers, this growth suggests a high volume of logistics and commercial movement across Thailand’s borders. Increased trade often correlates with busier transport routes and potential shifts in the availability of regional goods. While these figures indicate a strong economic trend, it remains to be confirmed how these trade volumes will fluctuate throughout the remainder of the year and what specific impacts this may have on local consumer prices or regional supply chains.
