SCB EIC Upgrades Thailand’s 2026-2027 Economic Growth Forecast

The SCB Economic Intelligence Center has raised its GDP growth projections for Thailand, citing stronger exports and government spending, though it warns of ongoing vulnerabilities for SMEs.

According to a report by Prachachat Business, the SCB Economic Intelligence Center (SCB EIC) has revised its economic growth forecast for Thailand. The center now projects the Thai economy to grow by 2.2% in 2026, up from its previous estimate of 2.0%. Looking ahead to 2027, the growth forecast has also been adjusted upward to 2.1%, compared to the earlier projection of 1.9%.

Dr. Yanyong Thaijaroen, representing the center, attributed these improved figures to robust performance in the export sector, increased investment, and the effective disbursement of the government budget. Despite these positive indicators, the report highlights that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) remain in a fragile state, potentially facing challenges as global interest rate environments, such as those influenced by the U.S. Federal Reserve, continue to evolve.

For residents and travelers, this economic outlook suggests a period of moderate expansion, which may influence local business activity and consumer spending power. However, the ongoing vulnerability of the SME sector serves as a reminder of the uneven nature of this recovery. It remains to be confirmed how these macroeconomic shifts will specifically impact the cost of living or the availability of services for those living in or visiting Thailand in the coming months.
