Phuket Expressway Phase 1: Kathu-Patong Project Moves Forward

According to a report by Thai Post, the Thai government is advancing plans for the first phase of the Phuket expressway, specifically the route connecting Kathu and Patong. Officials intend to present the project proposal to the Cabinet for formal consideration by the end of 2026.

The primary objective of this infrastructure development is to significantly improve connectivity between these two key areas, with projections suggesting that the new expressway will reduce travel time to just five minutes. If the project receives the necessary approvals and proceeds according to the current government timeline, it is expected to be completed and open for public use by 2031.

For residents and travelers, this development is significant as it addresses long-standing traffic congestion issues between the Kathu district and the popular Patong beach area. By providing a faster, more direct route, the expressway could substantially alter daily commutes and tourist transit patterns on the island.

While the government has outlined these goals, several details remain to be confirmed.
