Wild Elephant Attack Results in Fatality in Chachoengsao
A volunteer elephant monitor and local official has died following an encounter with a wild elephant in Tha Takhian district.
On September 15, 2026, a tragic incident occurred in Ban Nong Krathing, Chachoengsao province, where a wild elephant attacked and killed a member of a local elephant surveillance team. According to Khaosod Online, the victim, 58-year-old Mr. Phano, was serving as a local sub-district administrative organization (SAO) member and led a volunteer group tasked with preventing wild elephants from entering local agricultural areas.
The incident took place after the team was alerted that a wild elephant had broken away from its herd and crossed protective barriers toward farmland. While attempting to push the animal back into the forest, Mr. Phano was severely injured. Despite emergency medical intervention and CPR attempts by rescue teams, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
For residents and travelers in the Chachoengsao area, particularly near the Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary, this event highlights the ongoing risks associated with human-wildlife conflict in rural zones.
