Doi Inthanon Proposed as Thailand's 11th ASEAN Heritage Park
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is seeking ASEAN Heritage Park status for Doi Inthanon to boost conservation and local sustainable income.
According to a report by Thai Post on September 15, 2026, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, through the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, is actively pursuing the designation of Doi Inthanon National Park as an ASEAN Heritage Park. If successful, this would become Thailand’s 11th site to receive this regional recognition.
Minister Suchart highlighted the park’s unique high-altitude mountain ecosystem as a primary justification for the bid. The initiative aims to elevate Thailand’s conservation standards to an international level while simultaneously fostering sustainable economic opportunities for local communities residing near the park.
