Thai SEC Penalizes Eight Individuals for Stock Manipulation
The Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand has imposed civil sanctions on eight individuals for manipulating SIMAT-W3 and TNDT stocks between 2021 and 2024.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Thailand has taken civil enforcement action against eight individuals involved in the manipulation of stock prices and trading volumes. The investigation focused on the warrants of Simat Technologies (SIMAT-W3) and the shares of Thai NDT (TNDT).
The SEC, acting on information provided by the Stock Exchange of Thailand, determined that the eight individuals—who shared personal and financial connections—engaged in manipulative activities between May and August 2021. As a result, the regulator has ordered the group to pay civil penalties totaling 39,340,932.73 Thai Baht. Furthermore, the individuals have been prohibited from trading securities and derivatives, and are barred from serving as directors or executives in any listed company or securities firm.
For residents and expatriates, this development highlights the ongoing efforts by Thai financial regulators to maintain market integrity. While this case specifically concerns historical market manipulation, it serves as a reminder of the regulatory oversight governing the Thai stock market. At this time, the specific duration of the trading bans for each individual and the full extent of the administrative follow-up remain to be confirmed by the SEC.
