TTB Highlights Investment Gap as Thais Hold Trillions in Savings
TMBThanachart Bank (ttb) reports that while Thais hold 15–16 trillion baht in savings, investment participation remains low, prompting the launch of new global investment tools.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, TMBThanachart Bank (ttb) has identified a significant disparity between savings and investment habits in Thailand. Data indicates that there are approximately 150 million deposit accounts in the country, collectively holding between 15 and 16 trillion baht. In contrast, there are fewer than 5 million investment accounts, with assets under management totaling roughly 3.4 trillion baht.
Kanokwan Petchpisit-chote, head of transaction and wealth management at ttb, noted that this trend persists despite two decades of low interest rates. To address this, the bank has introduced 'My Wealth' on the ttb touch application, partnering with Webull to provide access to U.S. stocks and ETFs. This initiative specifically targets the 'Mass Affluent' segment—individuals with significant savings who have yet to diversify into investment markets.
For residents and expatriates, this highlights the current landscape of the Thai financial sector, where traditional savings remain the primary vehicle for wealth preservation. While the introduction of new digital tools may lower barriers to international market entry, it remains to be confirmed how effectively these platforms will shift consumer behavior toward long-term investment. Travelers and residents should note that while these financial services are expanding, they are subject to the bank's specific terms and local regulatory frameworks.
