Thai Research Agencies Collaborate to Shape National Development Strategy
The Program Management Unit for Area-based Development (PMU-A) is partnering with 19 universities to integrate poverty-reduction research into the 14th National Economic and Social Development Plan.
According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Program Management Unit for Area-based Development (PMU-A), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, has launched a collaborative initiative with 19 academic institutions. This partnership focuses on the 20 provinces identified as the most economically disadvantaged in Thailand.
During the third 'Power to Overcome Poverty' seminar, the coalition presented findings derived from research involving over 1.2 million individuals across more than 300,000 households. The objective of this initiative is to incorporate data-driven insights into the upcoming 14th National Economic and Social Development Plan. By leveraging localized research, the agencies aim to create more effective, evidence-based strategies for national poverty alleviation.
For residents and travelers, this development highlights a significant shift toward data-centric regional policy. While this initiative focuses on long-term economic structural changes, it may eventually influence regional infrastructure, local tourism support, and community development projects in these specific provinces. As of now, the proposal is in the planning stage. It remains to be confirmed how these research findings will be prioritized within the final draft of the 14th National Plan and what specific budgetary allocations will be assigned to implement these poverty-reduction strategies.
