SCB EIC Revises Thailand’s 2026 GDP Growth Forecast to 2.2%
The SCB Economic Intelligence Center has upgraded its 2026 growth projection for Thailand, citing strong technology exports while warning of persistent economic inequality.
According to a report by Prachachat Business, the SCB Economic Intelligence Center (SCB EIC) has raised its 2026 GDP growth forecast for Thailand to 2.2%, up from its previous estimate of 2.0%. This upward revision is primarily attributed to robust growth in technology-related exports.
Despite the improved outlook, the center highlights that Thailand’s economic recovery remains uneven, characterized by a 'K-shaped' trajectory where the gap between different sectors continues to widen. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are reportedly facing significant challenges, and the center has noted a softening in overall consumer purchasing power.
For residents and travelers, this economic climate suggests a bifurcated market where certain sectors thrive while others struggle. The SCB EIC has identified three primary risk factors that could impact future stability: the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, global trade tensions, and the potential effects of El Niño. To address these disparities, the center has recommended the continuation of targeted support measures, such as the 'Thai Chuay Thai Plus' program, to assist vulnerable groups.
It remains to be confirmed whether the government will extend these specific support programs or how the identified global risks will manifest in the local economy throughout the remainder of the year.
